It's a blessing in disguise imo (I am not talking about saving at the pumps - ain't nobody got time for that). Canada has always been a resource based economy and it will continue to be one for the foreseeable future, we’ve relied for far too long on resources to drive our economy with little to no innovation or organic growth happening here. On the positive we’ve built a solid financial sector, but that’s about it, we lag in tech, healthcare, manufacturing, etc. The other issue I have with these lower gas prices we are going to encourage wasteful behavior, in the long run where will the Teslas of the world go if running an F150 is not a cash burden.
I am certain this is temporary anyway.

yeah mainly field guys, lots of jobs are being cancelled. pretty shitty time but not the worst yet.

My buddy's company (well established oil and gas) out of Calgary is packaging people out in the field and head office. I just bought a ton of their stock over the summer

Wasteful behaviour indeed... it's a good time to be driving a gas guzzling, 20+L/100KM AMG. However, the government can easily encourage plug-in hybrids by offering free city perks like they do in Cali (HOV access on all roads, instead of just the 400 series).
