Also, to land in the highest payscale for a teacher which is A4 IIRC, you don't need a masters...honours bachelors and some courses are all that's needed

Ok 92k - with 10 year experience and a masters 92k doesn't sound crazy. /out of touch with reality already yeesh it happens fast
It's good pay I'm not saying it's not but 10 years real experience in a field with a post grad education isn't crazy to be in that pay range. I know a lot of teachers they're just normal.
However they all say they're going to be the principle or vice principle in a couple of years. That's going be a lot of principles man.

Ok 92k - with 10 year experience and a masters 92k doesn't sound crazy. Depends how you look at it. 92k with 24% annual pension, annual COLA adjustments, job security, early retirement, flexible workschedule (this matters when you have kids for pick up/drop off), amazing benefits, and 3 months off...I'd say it's a pretty solid job, but what do I know. It's not 250k as an executive, but it's a better quality of life
So are you saying it is crazy to get paid that for that experience and education? That's my point. It's fine for what is required.

I don't even know what "it is crazy to get paid that" means
What I am saying is that it's above average and that the job perks go far and beyond monetary compensation that can't be matched by jobs in industry...let me know how it goes when you don't show up to work for 3 months

Yeah I know - I think he misunderstood me saying its not crazy with meaning I'm saying the pay isn't good.
I'm fine with it - however I do not like how once teachers are in good or bad they stay in the system. Good ones should stay, ok ones need to improve, bad ones need to be evaluated and removed.

I'm messing with you due to your bias.
You got all defensive when I was simply stating it seems reasonable to get paid that for what is required for the experience and education level.

Yes. I thought we established that with the other 100 teacher threads that Chocolate Troll started in the past

So it's an overpaid job based on what's out there?
I'd say yes. Whether they "deserve" it is another debate. Overall they are batting way above the average. We all remember some useless tools that taught us. Do they deserve overall compensation value north of 100k?
Many other fields where 10yrs exp and a master's won't net you anywhere near 100k.
I'm not saying they need to cut back but though

I think most people will sing a different song once they have kids of their own and experience different teachers and the impact they have on their kids.

private school teachers make more? typically less from what I know(in general).
I wont sing a different tune. Like anything else, there are shitty people in the profession regardless if they get paid 100k or 50k. And what your kid ends up with each year is completely random.
We all experienced this growing up and mostly have "made it" so to speak. I think the general state of education in this country is pretty decent so the odd wally teacher wont really have a negative impact on your overall development and where you end up after all that daycare. Part of the reasoning why I think private school is mostly a waste of money and used more of a status symbol than anything else.
You know your wifey would still do what she does if she made less money, most teachers would. As I said, Im not about to go picket schools to get them to reduce wages. If they can still manage to hang onto them. Lucky them and good bargaining by the union.
OPG on the other hand. that shit is way out of control and needs to be fixed.

Teachers SHOULD be paid well.. but with the little asterisk that they should be GOOD TEACHERS
Union mentality = be average, get paid 100k
thats what pisses people off

It also pisses teachers off.
I've mentioned this in the past, but when the union was going through their bargaining they came to the school and made sure teachers didn't stay past a certain time or they would write them up...this was to make sure none of them did extra curriculars even though teachers cared for the kids and wanted to keep them going regardless of the negotiations.
Unfortunately in this case I am not pro union, but some sort of a representation is needed or it would become another profession racing to the bottom like everything else.
