So, anyone in on what the deal with these super mailboxes is?

Saw it on the news last night, noticed that Markham isn't on the list just yet but I am wondering how they pick the spots for placement. I am worried since I am the first house on my street they might want to put that shit near me...want to see if I can make it an issue before this shit even gets here.

Thoughts?

dont worry they will plant it right on your front lawn

I see them all over the place. My parents have theirs 2/3 down the street, and the street across from them has it after the first house

Probably will stuff it near your place. Perfect spot.
I'd be worried. Stoners and low lifes hang out at them causing trouble all day. Probably tag your garage door . Cause markham

Theres a perfect spot on my street that's right across from my house. I predict that's where they will put these mailboxes on my street. Frankly I'd rather see these mailboxes AWAY from my house. It's bad enough I have a hydro box, cable box on my property

i have one on my property (well really it's the city's) and i fucking hate it. well it has it's pros and cons really. short walk to the mail box, but people like to let their junk mail fly all over my lawn.

my aunt in markham has one? she got them to put up a garbage can next to it for people to put their mail in, i don't think i would want that tho.

mine is here:

I got one too. there's a perfectly open and unused lot across the street where it could go, but they decided that it should be here. I contacted the city a number of times but they wouldn't budge. people walked all over the boulevard to get to it so in the summer, the grass got trampled and it just became pure weeds. i ended up putting in a stone slab path so people would hopefully use it, but to date, it's 50/50.

pretty much all the super mail boxes in markham have a blue bin right next to it. again, it's 50/50 on whether the flyers end up in there. and then you get the elastic bands that people tend to toss right on the spot and they get shredded by the mower. i talked to my wife about just going out at night and lifting the thing across the street. maybe ... one day ...

We moved to RH 6 years ago and they already have them (the street we're on, the houses are about 20 y.o.).

No blue bins near these boxes - but neighbours seem pretty respectful of other people's property and don't toss the flyers on the ground.

Can't say the same for my aunt's place - she live a few blocks away and there's always trash at the base of the box. Then again her street is mostly townhouses / semi mix, not sure if that's the difference.

Anyone know whether it's possible to replicate the Canada Post key for your mail box?

We have them here...but how is this shit new? My wifes parents live at woodbine/16th and their house is at least 25 years old now and they have had a "super mailbox" since day 1 and so have my parents in a house that is over 30 years old now.

I know - the news article makes it like it's some sort of dramatic change; lots of areas had them for a long time. Its the rest of the areas that gotta play catch up.

I pick up my mail once a week; just pull right up to it on the way home.

It's actually better than having your own mailbox - they can't stuff as many flyers (w/ your own mail box - you're likely to clean it up everyday so there's more room for more flyers) and it's locked so people won't be able to go through your mail.

I just don't want it near my house as I recall 4Three having issues and now I learn about people leaving shit on the floor.

I live on a small street so I am hoping they put it somewhere else anyway.

I live on a crescent so I'm not sure where they'll put one if/when it comes over here. Currently we have a mail slot in the door so no worries when we go on vacation or ppl going through mail.

Our's is close to the end of the street. It's like titty's above, but there's a sidewalk there and faces the sidewalk. There were always flyers lying around until they put the blue bin there.

way to only pick at part of the sentence instead of reading and trying to comprehend the entire statement.

mailboxes at your front door aren't locked so anyone can walk up to your house and go through your mail. that's why clustered mailboxes are a better idea. comprendez?

We all know that mailboxes located at your front door aren't locked, we also know people aren't rummaging through them... So why would you bother to even make the comparison?

When I was a process server (You got served guy), I went through people's mail to see who lived there if they didn't answer the door.

When I read the title, I thought it would be something out or ordinary.
So it's the same old mail box I've been using for years.
They don't usually put it on someone's property. I only recall seeing it by parks.

Actually people DO rummage through mail - that's one aspect of how identify fraud / theft starts.

Read up:
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/scams-fraudes/id-theft-vol-eng.htm

People don't need to steal your mail - but can go through it to get basic information and start from there. And if cc companies are still stupid enough to mail you a card (mine are sent to the branch for me to pick up) - then there's another weak point.

It's not the people who just let their mail fly, it's the stupid ass people advertising my slipping their flyers 1/2 way into the mailboxes. Last year on a windy day I had like 20 flyers if this Chinese realtor all over my lawn, I just ran the mower over them haha

One thing that makes me rage is that I'll get the lawn looking nice, just cut and edged, then a realtor will come and slap their sign right on it. Instead of on the side with the sidewalk. Asked two of them to move it and they were nice, cussed the shit out of this one lady after she started to give me attitude /bigman

I had some fucking dick staple his realtor sign to my wooden fence. I am so happy I was just leaving the house when it happened. I ripped the sign off and gave it back to him while he was getting in his car

i dont see what the big deal is? they use these in so many places already (here and usa) and i like the 1A and 1B door options where larger items can get left by the mail carrier (well using his minivan lol) - then i dont have to drive/walk to shoppers then or wait in line to pickup. and those in the pic above look nicer vs. our RHill red ones (older model of course). teh only crap thing is having to check it with this kind of winter (again no bigger for a big strong boy like vas).

i will admit having never had this until 3 yrs ago (always mail to home) it did take awhile getting used to.

I don't mind the idea, I think it's great, I just don't want the mailbox near the front of my house.

The good thing as per the last article posted is they will have people vote. I'd rather they put a bunch of them in front a school/retirement residence down the street than putting up a bunch every 100 feet.

If the 1A is full, you're fucked and you have to pick up your item at the post office. With these new boxes, anything going into the old 1A box, will easily fit into yours..
