You want 29inches + rigid + single speed. Make it so.

No offense man, but you will never use that bike even to 10% of its potential/intended use. Not sure what kind of biking you plan on doing, but you are somewhat late to the game if you think you are going to just dive into MTB...this isn't pussy road cycling (I am serious).
Just get a decent hard tail and call it a day. This is coming from someone who was a regular on the don valley/taylor creek trails. Not a crazy trail, but decent. I just can't see you do any of that shit.

Nice bike. The "brain" system on the specialized suspension is absolutely amazing (when setup properly of course), it's amazing how well it works.
The fork is a really nice fork, can never go wrong with a rockshox reba or sid.
Can't comment on the brakes but i've heard lots of praise for other models of formula brakes.
The SRAM drive train I could either take or leave. It will work well and probably never miss a shift. (My issue in my above post was because I was running the highest level gear made for extreme weight savings. Saving weight isn't always a good thing).
Tires are awesome. Specialized makes some incredible rubber. I run a fast trak up front and renegade out back. Those are also tubeless ready with is super XD XD XD XD XD.
Rims are also awesome. Roval is specialized house brand. Their carbon rims and extremely popular.
Crankset is probably great. My crankset is a carbon unit made by specialized and is one of the stiffest cranks out there.
Honestly the bike is very nicely speced and wouldn't leave me wanting to upgrade.
Is it worth the purchase? I would definitely not buy that at MSRP. Specialized charges a bit of a premium for their stuff compared to the competition. If you are getting a deal and it's within your budget id say hell yes.
Norco isn't as popular but I think they're a great Canadian company. Great bikes and generally a lot more bang for your buck.

Not a good recommendation. A hardtail take a lot more skill to ride, it requires good bike handling skills and finesse to really keep a rhythm and flow nicely. For somebody starting out, having a moving back end is nice and really helps soak up the bumps that they would otherwise be bouncing over.
I'd agree with you if we were talking some decent trails...OP will never ride anything challenging, I guarantee it. Don't want to sound like Euphoric, but it will be a commuter bike on a gravel shoulder at best.
Hard tail for cost IMO anyway. Nothing difficult about them, but you are the resident expert so I will trust you on that. I've had cheap variants of both.

Cost wise a hardtail is better. If it isn't being trail ridden, again hardtail is obviously better. Any real off road trails and a full suspension bike is the way to go, especially for a new trail rider, it is a much friendlier ride (when the suspension is properly setup), compared to a hard tail and definitely cause less frustration with new riders. Plus it is very rare to find many people riding hardtails these days. The full suspension bikes are engineered so well and the suspension has come so far that it doesn't have the pedal bob and squishy feeling that used to be associated with full suspension bikes.

Friend broke his rear triangle / seat stays on his Santa Cruz Blur XC Carbon. Luckily, Outerbike is going on here in Moab. Talked to the SC guys, having another triangle shipped out asap, and having a blur trail loaner/demo bike until it comes in.
how's that for service.
Specialized brain... Have fun with the maintenance.

anyone to buy my carbon framed hardtail? Built it rode it once and it sits lol juice disc brakes, remote lockout adj. lightweight front fork (name escapes me now, manatoulin i think?) SRAm derailer and shifters, carbon bars. If intersted i'll dig out my build sheet. The wheels are the only thing you weird bike guys would want to swap out as they are a bit on the heavy side, but due to my size i didnt want to bend anything haha.
