for those of you who live with your SO, how do you guys divide up the house work? cooking? cleaning?
for me, i do all of the outside work. snow, grass, whatever needs to be done, trash, both cars and the floors in the house and the groceries. wife does the laundry, cooking, cleaning, bathrooms, dishes etc.
how do you guys have it? maid? i don't know if i can deal with the idea of a maid, my wife's sister has a maid come in to clean their 1br condo; that is crazy to me.

We share a lot of the chores, the only *set* ones that we have are house maintenance and laundry. I do the maintenance she does the laundry. I do help by bringing stuff downstairs for the laundry but I am not trustworthy enough to do (there have been accidents )
Usually she cooks, but I do at times as well. I clean the kitchen/vacuum, she does groceries, dusting. Cleaning the washroom, we take turns, depends what the other person is doing.
I'd say every second saturday we take 2 hours in the morning and just go through the whole house together doing whatever needs to be done and that's that.

For those that want a maid, I am trying to understand for what?
What is it in the house that takes so long to do that requires additional help? Or is it strictly because you can't be bothered to clean?

Lets see, I cook, do laundry and take care of the outside mostly. She shovels the odd time and cleans the upstairs (bedroom, bath) while I clean the kitchen. I do more, but she works alot more then I do too.
We both hate cleaning so we were thinking of getting a maid, but I have no idea where to even start to look. Lazy, cant be bothered, rather do something else. I dunno, Im a clean person I just do like doing it lol.

I'm still on the fence about getting cleaner in every so often. I keep up, but I really don't like to. What's the cost like?
it's give or take about $80 depending on the size of the house and what you want done. i don't know maybe i'm being cheap but i'd rather keep that $80 and do it myself but sometimes it can be a pain in the ass. maybe if they just do the floors and bathrooms that would be alright. even still, $80/once a month?

Wife: laundry, making our lunch for the week, cook breakfast, vacuum main floor (in between deep cleaning -- see below), general pick up stuff laying around
Me: shovel, take out the garbage / recycling, wash any plastic containers from our lunch and the kid's thermos (to be reused the next day), prepare kid's lunch in the mornings (she brings a thermos to school), pack our lunches to take to work
Dishwasher: does all the other dishes not mentioned above.
Cleaning lady (once a month): vacuums all flooring, mops the hardwood and tiled flooring, deep clean kitchen and bathroom, wipe all windows and blinds -- justification: she works fast, cleans the entire house in 4 hr. by herself -- faster than both my wife and I combined when we tried to do it together
Together: groceries (she pays, I carry )
Mother in law: Pick up our kid after school, cooking our dinner (we eat at her house every night after work) That's a huge timesaver.

Cleaning lady comes once every two weeks for a thorough cleaning. Between that time, we keep the house clean. Clean the bathroom countertops when you use it, same for the glass doors. Spray of scrubbing bubbles etc. Vacuum/sweep etc
Cooking, laundry -> wife. Shovelling, cars, yardwork -> me dishes ->wife or me depending on if its enough to go into the dishwasher drop kids to school -> both, mainly wife pick up kids from school, both, mainly me.
homework -> both, mainly wife for french, me for math, science etc activities : skating, tobogganing -> me (wife hates cold), swimming -> wife
There's only 2 of you, if she doesn't do it, you have to and vice versa. If you are fighting over chores, discuss it and create a flexible plan
