Ouch, hope you're feeling okay.
For negotiation, comb through Auto Trader, Kijiji, Craigslist, etc and look for ads that show the same car. Compare things like mileage, condition, etc and see how they compare to what the insurance company is offering.

Good to hear OP is in good spirits. $8,800 is low. As them to find one for you at that price.  Which insurance co? It sucks how the values they will eventually give you won't even get you back in the same car.

trader is what i used to double check on the offer they gave us when a stupid passat blew a red and plowed into me (in wifey's rav4). they actually offered more than the selling price on trader at the time; happily took the cash and ran.

Decide on the final price and ALWAYS ask for the tax on top. If you don't ask, they won't give it to you, lol.
