If my car got totaled I'd drive my truck.
No biggie.

Technically yes, but I'd rather drive a rusted out hyundai pony before taking the bus.

Speaking of which, this car is the perfect candidate. This guy kept looking at me when I was driving to work one day so I took a pic of him.

If it was just me - sure, I can always work from home; and the closest grocery store is about a 20-30 min. walk.
But w/ my wife and kid - no -- a car is a must; no way in hell I can take public transit just to get my kid to school / pick her up (and cabbing it is just too expensive)
OP: Don't you have a rental car allowance w/ your insurance policy? Seeing how you said your commute was 200+ km a day in the other thread, it sounds like you're pretty car dependent?

Hmmm....you may look to have your name added on to your parent's policy in the short term as they'll rate you a higher rate group because you have a gap of coverage.

ahhh I wish I could be that young again.. fortunately I have the advantage of being of the female gender, married and of a certain age.. all things in my favour in regards to insurance.. plus I have other policies through the same company as well...
my insurance is on "suspension" for the time being.. to allow for time to find a vehicle without having to pay for coverage

How long does that last for? I don't think forever but I guess since u are female, probably older then 25, you are probably ok. Didn't know your A/S so just throwing it out there in case.
a2b if you are on your parents policy im gonna key your shit
As for my policy, I used to pay $800 a year for my Civic even while under 25 before I changed companies in the summer.

I was thinking the same thing.. not certain how long they can leave one on "suspension" but the insurance company knows I am anal as f@ck when it comes to my rides... so no surprise to them it is going to take me some "time" to find something to my liking
Auto insurance is regulated. I've read through the OAP 1 and I can't recall there were any conditions that would allow this for a long period of time. It is probably safe to assume around 30 days and probably the same insurance company. You may want to talk to your broker to see (and get it in writing if possible). The last thing you want to hear is "don't worry" and next thing you know, your insurance is going to cost you a few hundred more a year because you don't have continuous insurance record.

You can do a suspension, I've done that before on my motorcycle for 3 months and it counted as continous coverage (State farm). Shouldn't you know this stuff if you work in the industry?

Take it easy son. I am not an expert in all insurance coverages and I don't claim to know it all. All I am saying the OP should look into something just in case. I am not going to say something I am not 100% sure about.
You are an accountant right? Do you know every detail of all aspects of personal, corporate tax along with all the regulations of the CRA? Its the same thing with insurance.
