Another shot in the nuts coming our way for 2011: TBA shortly....

- No transponder will cost you a $15.00 min surcharge
- Pricing will have 3 tiers: peak time, peak direction, late night

Yes you read that correctly: depending on what direction your travelling at what time of day you will be charged a premium for the privledge.

As well: before if they could not tell where you entered or exited you use to get charged for "one exit". Now if they fail to read your plate on entry or exit they look at your "average trip length" per month and charge you accordingly.

Your bill will be so complicated you'll have pretty much no way to fight it in case of a billing dispute...

looks like that road is a no go

the Ontario government gave them a license to print money, there is no stopping them from doing what they want. That's a bitch for people like me who use it about 4 times a year and don't live in the GTA with no transponder.

That is the extent that I used it as well. Lucky for me, its usually for work travel and I get compensated for it....but then still, its pretty messed up the way they are set up. Its robbery.

crazy shit...as usual we get bent over as the user/consumer. but yeah just don't use since you know how much it is if you dont have a transponder. i have a transponder...use it once in awhile. less than i used to tho.

Yikes, those are some pretty steep changes. Thankfully I don't commute on the 407 and only spend about $20/month on 3 or 4 trips.

I think once or twice I was only charged for the one-exit trip because my transponder didn't trigger on entry or exit. I guess some people have been taking advantage of it so it's probably smart to close that loophole.

Pricing tiers, no big deal since they already have peak and off-peak rates. I'm sure it's a cash grab.

The surcharge from $3.30 to $15 is insane. Although, I've heard that heavy trucks get charged $50 for no transponder.

They are asshole on the phone too.
I was driving my mom's car and the transponder didn't work, so got charged with that toll fee.
Trip to there, it was fine, so proper amount was charged to my account.

I called and asked them to adjust that trip to my account and they said NO. They need to speak to my mom who was not even in the country.
No apologize, just 'ya, that's too bad, have your mom called from over seas'.
I got pissed off and asked for the manager, and the call got disconnected.

my issue is that I am pretty much forced to use it. About 4 times per year I have 9am meetings in and around Richmond Hill. Taking the 401 is not an option as I would never make the meetings on time unless I left at 2am from London, lol. I really need to keep using the 407 when I have to do work in the area, so it just means they're going to suck more money out of me.

Wow that's expensive. I very rarely take the 407 but this weekend I had to take it from stouville to sauga and back. With the new rates that would have easily been a $50 trip.

Oh and like that other thread about cops and turning a blind eye to the 407, they definatly do. It was me, a honda odessy, and a caravan and we were all going a goof 140kmh when a rdx flys by all of us, a opp cruiser in the right shoulder sideways dident even flinch. That rdx was going 160kmh+ easily.

someone posted this on another forum and I agree...Canadians are such spineless morons who will gladly bend over.

I've been thinking about what our breaking point will be. For example, as i'm sure some of you guys are aware, in France they are trying to raise the retirement age a few years and people are losing their shit. I always wonder what it will take for people here in Canada to finally get out and fight back... or if we will continue to allow corporations and government to take as much as they want whenever they please, while they continue to **** everything up... i.e. $1,000,000+ for the G20 summit.

$2.50/month or $24/year. No option to purchase.

If its that cheap then ill pick one up too.

What I don't get, is that they say that you shouldent transfer it from car to car....but why not? Its definatly not worth it for me to get one for the teg and the bimmer, or what if I want to switch cars for the day?

"Q: can I use my transponder in more than one vehicle?"

"A: we strongly advise all our customers not to share a transponder between vehicles. You are more likely to mount the transponder incorrectly or forget to take it in the car and end up with video toll charges.

In order to avoid additional charges to your account, we strongly recommend that you lease a seperate transponder for each vehicle that you plan to use the 407 etr. Customers who share transponders between vehicles will be responsible for any charges, including video toll charges, that can result from moving around the transponder"

So fuck leasing another one, if the wife forgets it then she is taking the 401. Strongly advise my ass, they just want you to pay more, they are such jew bags.

Correction, the annual lease is $21.50

A second transponder on your account is $1/month or $10/year.

there's always been a peak time/area price difference on the 407. Guess they're making changes, got original linky?

And although they "recommend" a 2nd transponder, I swap the same unit back and forth between summer toy/daily car. Works just fine.

whoever company that run 407 is making a killing, i don't use it on a regular basis but when I see traffics back up on 401, i will just hop on to save time.

but the rate is purely highway robbery

Traffic on the 407 declined by 1.7% (in terms of kilometres covered) from '08 to '09, but EBITDA grew ~7%) because of the vehicle class increases that they introduced early in '09.

Their revenue in '09 was ~350mil, should be interesting how that number reflects in 2010's annual report as they had pretty high expectations for it.

The other company that you can consider, which holds minority stake is Macquarie Infrastructure (Toll Route) S.A. - SNC Lavalin

New rates are up, effective next month. The changes do not appear to be as dramatic as Euphoric posted but none-the-less, the cost is going up.

I might have read this here some time ago, but apparently these trucks with the rear door mounted spare tire ride for free.

Too bad they are made from shitty Japanese tin, most rotted out by now....
And gas is $1.13/L.

Hrmm, sourcing out a southern truck + swapping in some kind of diesel would be a double win if you needed a truck and did mega k's travelling east to west....
