the Ontario government gave them a license to print money, there is no stopping them from doing what they want. That's a bitch for people like me who use it about 4 times a year and don't live in the GTA with no transponder.

That is the extent that I used it as well. Lucky for me, its usually for work travel and I get compensated for it....but then still, its pretty messed up the way they are set up. Its robbery.

Yikes, those are some pretty steep changes. Thankfully I don't commute on the 407 and only spend about $20/month on 3 or 4 trips.
I think once or twice I was only charged for the one-exit trip because my transponder didn't trigger on entry or exit. I guess some people have been taking advantage of it so it's probably smart to close that loophole.
Pricing tiers, no big deal since they already have peak and off-peak rates. I'm sure it's a cash grab.
The surcharge from $3.30 to $15 is insane. Although, I've heard that heavy trucks get charged $50 for no transponder.

so is there a way for the province to get this shit back?
nope.
chances are 407 probably has more $$ than the government and they will spend a SHITLOAD of $$ to fight against the govt

my issue is that I am pretty much forced to use it. About 4 times per year I have 9am meetings in and around Richmond Hill. Taking the 401 is not an option as I would never make the meetings on time unless I left at 2am from London, lol. I really need to keep using the 407 when I have to do work in the area, so it just means they're going to suck more money out of me.

someone posted this on another forum and I agree...Canadians are such spineless morons who will gladly bend over.
I've been thinking about what our breaking point will be. For example, as i'm sure some of you guys are aware, in France they are trying to raise the retirement age a few years and people are losing their shit. In the UK, they are trying to raise tuition and students are burning down the offices of political parties.
I always wonder what it will take for people here in Canada to finally get out and fight back... or if we will continue to allow corporations and government to take as much as they want whenever they please, while they continue to **** everything up... i.e. $1,000,000+ for the G20 summit.

Traffic on the 407 declined by 1.7% (in terms of kilometres covered) from '08 to '09, but EBITDA grew ~7%) because of the vehicle class increases that they introduced early in '09.
Their revenue in '09 was ~350mil, should be interesting how that number reflects in 2010's annual report as they had pretty high expectations for it.
The other company that you can consider, which holds minority stake is Macquarie Infrastructure (Toll Route) S.A. - SNC Lavalin

New rates are up, effective next month. The changes do not appear to be as dramatic as Euphoric posted but none-the-less, the cost is going up.

I might have read this here some time ago, but apparently these trucks with the rear door mounted spare tire ride for free.
Too bad they are made from shitty Japanese tin, most rotted out by now.... And gas is $1.13/L.
Hrmm, sourcing out a southern truck + swapping in some kind of diesel would be a double win if you needed a truck and did mega k's travelling east to west....

A flip down license plate cover would probably be a lot easier

although one you can be busted for. You can not be charged for driving a Pathfinder with a factory mounted plate.
