Hi all,

The boss and i are looking into signing up for some sort of racing school and so i'm wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions...

googled but only really found 2 that seemed to fit the bill - we want to do a circuit of some sorts but not looking for open wheel racing. Any help?

there are racing schools at Mosport and Shannonville. The Shannonville one you provide your own vehicle. I don't recall any other details, so you can google the rest.

What exactly are you looking for? A day of fun with some friends, or are you on the way to becoming amateur road racers?

Use your own cars, or the schools?

How far are you willing to travel?

i did ian law's which was pretty good. use your own car and such. im sure eddie82 has done that one too?

but yeah there is some selection out there depending on your wants/needs. the formula3000 car open wheel one is fun...i think they use DDT at mosport.

there is also one at st-eustache and mont tremblant if you wanna go that far.

film yourself driving, post here, and everyone on this board will school you on what you're doing wrong, which will likely be everything.

That’s funny. You know, Edwin happens to know a few things and one of those things Edwin knows is, it’s not how you stand by your car, it’s how you race your car. You better learn that.

I took the MCO (Motorsport Club of Ottawa) race school, because at the time, the chief instructor was the driver I crew for (Bob Armstrong).

At the time, it was at Shannonville. He's no longer the lead and it's at Calabogie.

If you've never been on a track before, I wouldn't recommend Calabogie. In the words of my buddy, "it makes Mosport look like an intermediate track".

Still Calabogie is a hell of a lot of fun and when I went there (the day after my race school) it was a balls to the wall track day, not a school, so I'm sure the atmosphere would be different.

Does that help any?

Thanks all - this has been great info... quite honestly, i'd prefer to try out the open wheel stuff but the boss doesn't wanna \:\(

Calabogie looks pretty awesome tho! Definitely on the list... I've tracked before but not much. Maybe 50 laps max and all in a civic \:\( Calabogie looks pretty high speed... dunno how well it'll do there... @Shannonville, the civic was pretty good...

I've taken the BMW Trilium Chapter performance driving school twice (both at Mosport, big track) -- and it was pretty fun.

2 days for $400 + GST (back then) -- some in class instructions mixed with skid pad exercises and one on one instruction in your car; very organized.

i've been to shannonville, dunnville, mosport ddt and cayuga on my own quite a few times but i still prefer more seat time with an instructior for the big track just to keep myself from over driving the car.

It is. If you look at the longest straight here, I could hit 190-195 before the braking for the right-hand turn in.

When my foot slipped off the brake while doing heel-and-toe at the end of the day (I was tired, I'd done the race school the two days before) that's when I decided to get a full cage \:\)

There's also going to be a 2-day Time Attack school held by CASC in May at the Mosport DDT track. The details are not yet announced but the entry fee traditionally includes competition in one CASC Time Attack event later in the season.

again, thanks for all the good info... doesn't look like i'm gonna be doing one of these after all... had a chat with the boss - he wants to do a school that doesn't involve his own car but doesn't want to do open wheel either... he's actually looking at the Skip Barber Racing School... worked out a deal with him that if i can steal a company from a certain competitor, he'll pay for the racing school LOL... gonna see if I can talk him into going to the one @ Mazda Speedway LOL

F22... i'm down for one of the schools here locally... wanna do calabogie?? \:D

Calabogie is awesome. Just don't go in expecting to be hot shit. Prepare to be humbled. Make sure you go as a passenger with someone who knows the line first.

If you screw up one corner, it can mess you up for the next three. (or so I found) And I've been running in lapping events since 1999, so I'm not exactly new at it, either.

I broke my car at Shannonville.

I'm spending too much money on the other one to fix the track car right now \:\)
