After reading that thread people say a blade on a safety razor is worth 5 shaves? Fuck I get double that from a Mach3...

Mach 3 for me, does the perfect job. I got pissed off one day at the price of them and picked up one of those Shoppers Drugmart home brand 3 blade knock off razors, fuck that did a worse job brand new then the worn out mach3. Learned my lesson....gotta pay for comfort and non bleeding face.

I have to use 2 separate razors to shave. I use a Mach3 (i think) to do my cheeks and neck and then I use a Gillette Sensor Excel (or something like that) to properly carve out my goatee. The heads of other blades are to big/wide/tall to do the job well. The second blade also needs to be nice and sharp.

Two thing that I've always wanted to try are:

1) Get shaved by someone else (a pro) at like a barber shop or something
2) Use a single blade / straight edge

Anyone ever tried either?

Never tried a barber shave before, but would love to.

Fusion Power here. Much better shave than the Mach 3 in my opinion. I still have some new blades for my Mach 3 so I try it out once a month just to switch it up.

I remember a while back I was looking into some pre-shaving techniques. They were something along the lines of:

1) Apply a hot steaming towel to your face for x minutes
2) Remove towel, apply shaving cream and reapply steaming towel for x minutes (most likely a new towel). I remember this was so that the shaving cream, in association with the hot towel will lift dirt from your face and suspend it into the shaving cream
3) Wipe away shaving cream and reapply steaming towel (again most likely a fresh one) for x minutes
4) shave

at the old-guy-and-son owned barber shop i useto go to, i would get a shave. it was crazy smooth, no irriation, diden't hurt, nothing. however they sold the shop, and the new owner was too cheap to hire anyone else so they had this one dirka dirka habbi habbi working there, so naturally he had 100% of the customers. he had a line up and was rushing things and asked for a shave and holy shit, it felt like he was pealing the skin off of my face! by the end of it, i had irriation, bleeding, and he put on the after shave, took the towel and started faning my face because it felt like it was on fire! worse shave evAr; so it definatly depends on who's doing it.

but good luck trying to find a barber who will shave now, aparantly they don't anymore because it wasen't hygenic and it's illegal to do them now, but i'm sure some old skool places still do it.

now i take a shower first, put on some nice and hot water and soak my face then shave after with a gel shaving creme and a shick quattro(sp?).

for you guys that are looking for a nice hot towel shave, a lot of the grooming places targetting the metrosexual male do the straight razor hot towel shave.

apparently the woman at Got Style on King is trained at the art of shaving, and uses all natural products so you'll be fine even with sensitive skin.

a new place just opened up around the corner from my place called mankind grooming studio, they had dermologica there the other day, not sure if they're any good.

I have a double edge safety razor, badger hair brush and all kinds of expensive creams for wet shaving. It works awesome once you learn how to do it properly, it's not something you can just jump into and expect a perfect shave first time, it does take a bit of practice.

Edit - merkur makes some nice cheap DE's to start out with, buy quality blades though. Don't forget the taylor of old bond lavender, it is nice stuff.

Never got my face shaved with the single blade, warm shaving cream, and hot towel, but plan on getting it done on my wedding day. My old barber use to use the single blade and shave the back of his clients neck, and give a nice straight cut for side burns and hair line by your neck...loved the feeling.

Funny, cause not long ago we had this conversation at work and some of the guys were saying they had it done on their wedding day, along with their groomsmen...thought I might give it a shot as well. \:\)

if you plan on having a baby's butt smooth shave for your wedding day, definitely go a month or 2 before for a trial to see how your face would react...you don't want to be all red and bumpy on your wedding day and in your photos like aids just broke out all over.
