Hey all, just got a 00 Si not too long ago and suprisingly i like it! (currently a subaru tech, also just got rid of a 320whp wrx). I ran into a problem with the Si tonight that Im not too sure about. The CEL came on (reading codes in the AM) and now the car will not go into vtec and has a limiter at 6500 rpm. Not sure if it is a common problem that is all tied together or not??!! I will post codes tomorrow night, but anyone got any common things to look at with these symptoms?? Thanks in advace!

Full check it every-other day (new (used) car paranoid) Will triple check though.

VTEC is run off oil pressure, and low oil causes vtec to not engage.

You could also figure out what the CEL is, and then we can better help you

Alright, I plan on checking the code tomorrow over lunch, and probably change the oil since its close to due (about 900 miles until its due) so I will kill 2 birds with one stone. Thanks so far!

depending on the code, the car goes in to "limp mode" meaning it wont let you hit a certain RPM and it wont go in to VTEC to prevent damage to the car.

you could have a blown o2 sensor... but once you get that code back you will be able to better determine what to do next
