what kind of weather should I expect. I'm also looking at staying in southbeach. Any suggestions on what I should check out? It will be my wife and I's first time in FLA. We are either considering SOBE or Cali but would really like to do south beach first.

it will still be pretty hot and humid, it does not get cool here till thanksgiving/xmas time even then its only 1 or 2 days.
the beaches should still be busy around that time so you should have fun, you are not to far from the keys you should see that as well while down there
