in the next month or so i will be buying new cams, gears, valve springs, and retainers

i was set on the S2S2s until i recently read up on the BC4s having the same vtec lobe with longer duration and and a way more aggressive primary cam resulting in a broader powerband from low to high rpm range and a smoother transition of power. however, im not sure whether the BC4s will make the power on my setup compared to S2S2s would.

Js intake
DC header 4-1
DC 2 1/2 in SS high flow exhaust

and also which cams would be ideal for a future LS/VTEC setup

If you're staying wtih stock compression, go with the S2S2's. If you're raising compression at all, go for the BC4's. They tend to respond well to high displacement and high compression motors, but not so well to the opposite... [cough]stockb16[/cough]

yea, u better have at least I'd say about an 11.5:1 CR or more on a b16 to use either of those cams effectivly. or a larger motor

OK guys, the same issue bothers me the last couple of days. I also plan to get stage2 cams and I am considering S2S2, BC4 and JUN3 as well as the new Toda A2 (Toda A below vtec, Toda B in vtec). THis is my daily driver so I want max reliability.

i still say max reliability is s2s2 or jun3. they have smaller primary lobes (as compared to cams like s2pro1, bc4, toda) which means they give less low end & midrange. But this also means its less wear on ur valvetrain while daily driving.

i thot the sudden power jump from the weaker primary lobes to the aggressive vtec lobes on the skunk2 stage 2 also put quite a bit of wear and tear on your valve train

whereas the bc4s gradually build up to the vtec with a stronger primary? (yes? no?)

if you are worried about valvetrain look into cams with less lift and longer duration, with smaller ramp angles you'll put less wear and tear into the valves and retainers since they'll open and close more softly than cams with high lift and short duration.

im not worried about it i was just asking if its true that S2S2 cams put more wear and tear on the valvetrain due to the sudden jump in power than the BC4s which have a more gradual powerband

'Sudden jump' in power meaning what? That it makes most of its power up in the rev range, as oppose to BC4 throughout? I think BC4 are better cams in the sense that they will yield more useable power but they don't idle as well as S2S2. If you know about cars and mods, you'll know works been done on a car with the BC4, and I think they'll do more damage to valvetrain than the S2S2.

if you look at the cam profile for the vtec lobes on the BC4 it has a very sharp edge on the profile, i can't remember if it opens very suddenly or closes suddenly but it is harsher for valvetrain, i think its also a reason that they recommend BC valve train since its been nitrided for added durability. they came out with a newer cam the bc6 and i believe that it has longer duration and less lift meaning its softer on valvetrain. most rocket cam's have that, they refer to it as ramp angle sometimes.

JUN3 also has long duration compared to its relatively low lift. I just ordered them. Will put them in a built B20.
