I'm really not an expert on car suspensions, but I'll tell you what I'm running and my experiences with it. First off, I am running Eibach Sportline Springs (aorund 1.6-1.8" drop) with stock struts (think they are blown) and an Eibach Pro-Alignment Camber Kit on the front.
I really have enjoyed having my car lowered because it no longer looks like a 4x4 and it handles alot better than stock. The only realy problem I have experienced is that my tires rub the inside and top of the plastic fender well lining when I turn the wheel really sharp and/or hit a large bump, largely because the tires that came on my rims are 65 series and need to be around 50 series (gonna take care of that as soon as more money comes my way).
I have only used Eibach springs, so I don't know how any other brands perform, but like most things in life, I'm sure you get what you pay for.

my budget is real tight as of now because i have to get a new tranny put in my car. the previous owner was a real dick and beat the shit outta the car...anyways, im not ordering anything right now, but id say prolly around like 600 for shocks n springs. another question...what else would i need to look into if im going to lower my car "the right way"? what adjustments would i need to make?

well if you want to lower the crap out of the car, you'll need camber kits.
but the right way is to save your money and get good coilovers. im running the tein SS cause this is my daily driver.
i didnt slam it to the ground so my camber isnt so bad that i need a kit.

I have a question too, I just lowered my car 2.5 inches with springs, and I have stock shocks and struts. The ride isnt too bumpy, but the springs "knock" a lot and makes a lot of noise. What is that caused from? It just sounds like they are bumping around and turning. Any help would be good thanks.

There is a pattern on the lower control arm, portion that the spring sits/rest on. It must be nested correctly on this so that the end of the spring "pushes" against the "stop". Also did you cut the bump stop to the appropriate hieght? With a 2.5" drop your stock struts are TOAST!

I have eibach pro-kits and they are a great street set up. I never rub while turning or going over bumps or even going into driveways with curbs. AND you do not need a camber kit with these springs. Just install and enjoy. Doesn't sound like you want anything too aggressive and when it is a daily driver you really don't need anything too aggresive. Oh and the car handles nice also.

Dont mean to thread jack or anything, but i have some H&R sport springs as well as KYB AGX's for sale if you are interested. I removed the combo off of my 99 si. Both were put on for 6000 miles, but the streets in NY are too unforgiving, so now they are for sale ;-) The car handled great with them on, all I would recommend is an alignment ASAP after installment if you want your tires to last!
BTW, both the shocks and springs come in their original boxes etc... If anyone is interested, i want 350 obo for both. Email me at lpomares2002@yahoo.com
Peace!

Did your springs come with rubber sleeves for the coils? Were the lower coils cut? When I had Eibach Sportlines on my older car, they had rubber sleeves to insulate coil compression under load. It's a common problem on slammed applications.

do you guys think i can fit 17x7.5 wheels with a 45mm offset, on an 00 si with H&R sports (1.75 in. drop)??? need to know before christmas!
In theory they should fit but they'll probably rub on the outer fenderwell during hard cornering or bumps. And you'll have no sidewall protection on 205/40/17 tires. Hope that helps.

yes you will rub badly, probably bend a rim on the next decent size hole, any other smaller bump will feel like you just ran over a boulder, and add more mass thus negating hp gains you may have added so your car will be slower too unless you have the money to invest in some forged rims like Rays.
Yep 17's are a great choice if all you want is looks

17s are functional when done right. I run the mountains every other week with no problems, and have done so for the last 100K miles. The 40 sidewalls have less flex under hard cornering. On the downside, as already mentioned, is that they're noisier under normal driving and a bigger risk for curb/pothole damage.
If you're really wanting 17s I'd suggest getting them at a 6.75" or 7" width on 205/40/17 tires.
