Alright, so here's the short of the story. You might remember last year I had posted some pics of my Mazdaspeed3 that I traded in the EM1 for. As much of a beast that the speed3 is, I realize that the $330/month car payment is handcuffing my abilities to save some money (apparently that's a good idea when you're raising a fledgling family ). So I'm about to put the for sale ad out, and I've been cruising some sites looking for some good deals on reliable rides, and of course an '00 Si catches my eye on Craigslist...

I'll post the link to the CL ad so you can see for yourself - It's almost bone stock, which is a rarity these days. Would be nice to actually take the plunge and boost it down the road like I always wanted to do to mine, just wasn't able to make it happen. He did tell me that the b16a he bought was obdI, so my questions are: what does that change in the short term when I would be just using it stock as my DD? Then of course, generally speaking, what do you guys think?

Couple things stand out.

Who buys a complete motor to change out when a headgasket is blown?

I'd be weary right there....and why would it up and blow @ 189,000 ? I venture to say the miles were hard up to that point...which is good amount for an 00. 9yrs old meaning, 21k a year for 9 yrs.

Then how does he know it's blown?

If the price is right, and you are willing to do the work yourself you could get it running for cheap...I wouldn't sweat it...but something is a little off imo.

As for the obd2 --> 1 question...I would fix the original motor if possible and sell the swap.

So I inquired a little further about the car, and he got back to me quickly w/ a response, which I'm attaching below. Now I've never experienced a blown HG--Adam you had said if I was willing to do the work myself I could get the original b16 working for cheap...if the leakdown/compression test were to come back good, what all do you think (or can you even guess w/ such little info) would be needed for the fix? More importantly, how much $$? Just trying to figure out if this is still worth pursuing...I'm sure I could get the car minus new engine for $4k tops.

Any info is as always much appreciated. Here's the copy of that email...

<<Hey. Yea, un-modded Si's are rediculously few and far between. Which is why I bought it answering your original owner question (no.) I bought it from a dealer in Canton, Ohio which got it at auction after who I assume was the original owner traded it in. As for the head gasket; I was gettin onto the freeway. It was empty so I pushed it a little bit (probably to 90) short shifting it at around 6-6500RPMs keeping in mind it had high miles. [also i had just had the oil and other fluids changed the day before] After coasting to 65 and just cruising it started to feel like it had a missfire so i took it home. It threw the Missfire cylinder two code so I figured it was an ignition thing and changed all the components as I stated. No avail, but as I was looking underhood for any answer my friend noticed some fresh coolant running down the head near cylinder two while it was running and the gasket slightly being pushed out so thats how I know its blown. I'd be willing to sell it w/out the new motor because Im pretty confident I could sell it seperately. Sorry for the barrage of long answers lol. Just want to be as honest and clear as I can. Thanks, Ricky

Hey again~
So I keep coming back to your listing because everyone and their mother's Si's are all modded already. Just wanted to get some more info. Are you the original owner? Main reason I ask is because 189,000 miles is quite a bit on a '00 car. Also, what exactly happened w/ the blown headgasket? How did you know it was blown? Lastly, would you ultimately be willing to sell the car without the new b16 from tigerjapanese?

Sorry for the barrage of questions--thanks in advance!

IF it's a h/g, you could buy it for ~$70-$100 bucks and do it yourself. Only take a few hours if it's your first time.

But I don't know why it would blow...it could be numerous problems...cracked sleeve/etc...no telling until you take a look yourself.
