I have assembled a turbo kit over the last year and a half and it is now complete waiting to be installed.
Garret T3 Super 60 turbo Spoolin 2.5" downpipe 2.5" stainless flex section 2.5" flange 2.5" to 3" test pipe 3" Thermal R&D catback HF manifold HF manifold adaptor plate Oil line from turbo to oil pan Oil pan with oil line drain bung 3 ft oil line from sandwich plate to turbo Oil Restrictor JRC FMIC 2.5" IC piping, couplers, T clamps HKS knockoff BOV BOV flange (not pictured) DSM 450cc Injectors Resistor Box Walbro 255 LPH Fuel Pump Motorola 2.5 Bar MAP sensor Intake charge pipe (need to made) K&N filter (need to buy after I fab an intake) Autometer Boost Gauge Autometer Pyrometer Gauge Autometer Oil pressure Gauge P28 chipped w/ CROME
I've been driving the engine (d16z6, forged rods/pistons, ARP head studs) NA for about 1200 miles so far with no problems on a virgin P28. I have another P28 chipped w/ CROME with a D16y5 base map on it. I don't know anything about tuning... I don't have a PC or wideband so I'm not even going to attempt it.
I live in Akron, OH, I would like to have my car tuned by Slowmotion Motorsports in Columbus (2.5 hr drive), but don't have access to a truck w/ trailer to haul it down there.
If I install the turbo components here, but leave in the stock injectors, stock fuel pump, and stock P28 until I get to Slo Mo's parking lot... will it be OK if I keep the RPM under 3k?
Someone else told me to undo the vaccum line so the wastgate cant build boost...

If you have an appointment with SloMo, I suspect they could give you a basemap for your setup that would get you there ok...granted you absolutely must stay out of boost on the way there, but it would be drivable. I'd ask them.
EDIT: just saw you don't have a laptop PC. that might complicate installing the new basemap.

thanks for the heads up on the wastegate info.
as for installing those parts when I got there, it would be pretty much like when I installed them in my driveway. I've already installed them and removed them once to test fit everything, so I'll bring all the tools needed.

I guess what I'm trying to say is nobody here is going to recommend what you propose doing, but it is do-able.
Just make sure you unhook the wastegate and the car will behave like NA for the drive down.

The fuel pump is not part of the equation unless your FPR is shot, so install that now.
I wouldn't recommend driving 2 minutes let alone 2 hours on a basemap without knowing what kind of afr's you had at idle, cruise, and how close the accel enrichemnts are (i've seen basemaps work great at idle and okay at cruise and at any kind of small TPS delta change the car would peg the wideband richer then 8.0:1).
I would also not reccomend trying to solder a resistor box in a parking lot. I would not reccomend crossing your fingers that the injectors are all good w/out leaks.
The best thing you could do is either borrow a wideband, install everything, and drive around town for a few minutes to make sure the basemap is ok and then drive to the tuner. the next best thing is to get a basemap, install the parts, fire the car up and make sure there are no fuel leaks and everything checks out, and put it on a trailer or tow it.

I would go with what SauuraiSam says, I do not believe that if you "unhooked" the wasted gate that it would behave like N/A, I think that there would be too much back pressure. Would it be feesable to atleast borrow a friends truck and rent a tow dolly of some sort?

By the way lest ye think i'm talking out of my ass
I have driven 3.5 hours with a car un-tuned before and did an injector swap at the shop. However, that was a last minute emergecy because the sensor for my LC-1 was completely toast. That car was a GT-R which came from the factory F/I and it had a Power FC, which IMO is the only standalone whose basemap is so good you can use it on a stock to mildly modified car w/out probs. Since the car was factory F/I I knew that most of the map would be decent and the car could be driven with 0-15% throttle the entire way, plus the Commander lets you know exactly what kind of injector pulsewidth, TPS, knock sensing, and other stuff is going on with the car. It has mass airflow meters instead of speed density, etc. Especially since the car was MAF based I could have just calculated the injector size change from stock to the new 720cc/min units, but i didnt feel comfortable because I know how much variance there can be from low pulsewidth to high pulsewidth due to injector latency and a few other factors. 2hrs is plenty of time to wash the rings on your motor if its too rich while cruising let alone 3.5.
Before leaving we installed the new injectors and primed the fuel system to make sure there were no leaks, fired it up with the correted number and it ran fine albiet very rich, then swapped back to stock and off we went. The ONLY reason we did not tow dolly it is because its AWD and it would toast the center diff. You dont have that excuse

U-haul does have full car trailers, I used to work at a shop, the one still listed in my sig:
that is a U-haul dealer, and thats actually where we did all the mechanical work on the car. However, there was absolutely no possible way to get the GT-R onto a trailer because of how low the car sits. Just to get it onto a 4 post lift takes the 2 foot long ramps plus 4 6ft long 2x6's to make an arc :p

U-haul also has full dolley's for awd cars... I see it this way..if you don't have the little extra $$ or time to tow it, then you shouldn't be modifiying your car to begin with. B/c a modified car takes alot of both.
Why waste the all the time/money you have spent/invested to try and drive the car and fuck it all up? Eat one more bill and get your car running properly... you will thank yourself afterwards

In January, I'm doing a cross country move to your area thanks to the Navy. Maybe I'll meet up with ya and say hi face to face, check out your guys' shop ect. I've got some stuff in the works, maybe you guys can help me a little.
