Alright im not sure if this goes here but here goes:

SO i am in the process of boosting my d16. I am planning on boosting about 23ish pounds and i am also building up my internals for obvious reasons. I have found out that i am going to be around 350-400 whp and around 250-300 fl/lbs of torque. I am also doing an auto to manual swap for my car. I have everything i need for the swap except for a clutch. That is my problem. I am looking at 3 different ACT clutches. I am going to be driving my car daily for school and work and where ever else i need to drive so i am unsure which clutch will give me daily drivability with a good amount of hold for my torque numbers. i saw one clutch that will hold 270ft/lbs and is a modifyed street disc according to act. Then there are two other clutch kits that will hold 350fy/lbs but they are both pucked clutches. One of which has 4 pucks while the other has 6. My question is which clutch should i go with for my situation. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to buy the clutch asap so i can get my tranny swapped before im boosted just so i can get more comfortable with manual.

Please and thank you for the help

Mark

Go with the organic clutch that they offer (the 270 ft./lb. as you stated). It will be a little more forgiving for your daily driving needs. The pucked clutches will have more of an on/off effect rather than the slight transition of an organic clutch. I've never owned a pucked clutch but this is what I assume from research/hear-say. I've had my organic for 3-5 years now with no problems out of it except for a little chatter from driving stop and go in the mountains and warping it ever so slightly!

well, one way or another, you're going to have to make a sacrafice. for daily driving, you'd really want a sprung street disc with a heavy duty pressure plate. these are great for daily driven cars and the pedal feel is just slightly stiffer. depending on the power you're making, it may not hold the power or just not last too long before it slips. a pucked unsprung disc holds power great but is not so friendly for daily driving. you get used to it but it engages very hard. or you can spend big bucks and get a twin disk. you get to hold the power yet still have a good pedal feel.

4 and 6 hold the same power but the four is lighter and engages harder. six puck is recommended. twin disc is about $1000 and up depending on the manf. and specs

ACT has a new sprung 4 puck and 6 puck race disc. get the spec for that and see if you can afford it. my best suggestion.

I'd personally call ACT and tell them everything you want to do w/your care, goals/etc.

They will tell you exactly what is best for you..

i called act and the sprung pucked clutches only help reduce noise and vibration. they do not assist in the engagment of shifting. they recommended that i just go with the modifyed street disc since i will be driving daily

hows that action working for you? I was going to get a 2ks but wasn't too sure. How much power are you putting down? and what are your driving habits like? do you constatly pedel to the metal kinda driver or what? The 2MS will meet my needs and then some for sure but the harsh pedel pressure and engaugement isn't what I'm looking for in a daily driver, who sees traffic on a regular basis.

i'm probably putting down around 260whp, 220tq. i like to mash the pedal, of course, no sense in putting all that money into the car and babying it. its about 20 miles one way for me to work, and maybe 15 of it is light traffic. pedal pressure was pretty heavy when i first got it, doesn't even phase me now. i love the clutch. i'm also a person who likes to ride out the clutch in 1st gear/hills. no complaints about the clutch from me.

like i said before, you'll have to make a sacrafice one way or another. the four pucks and six pucks hold a lot of power but the pedal feel and engagement is something you'll have to get used to. you'll have to ask around about the modified street disc. i'm not sure how much they hold or how long they last with a lot of power.
