I just got a 2000 si and before i had a 97 prelude that i put a jrsc on and i really liked it but from what i was reading they suck power wise for the si. I was thinking about putting one on cause i found one for 1300. How does it sack up against the other?

It's not bad for a DD. lacks the all out power of a turbo honda, but it's a lot more reliable in my opinion. Less items to go out.

Good torque/power response from when I had a JRSC on my D-series. (haven't had one on a 99 SI yet)

pros:
good power response
less maintainence
cheaper in general

cons:
not as fast as a turbo set

Daily driver = yes
High power = no

I love mine just cause I drive a lot of highway and I got the added power to pass without downshifting all the time. It's not the fastest thing on the road but it will hold it's own against a mojority of the cars I come across.

With the base horsepower of a Prelude being 195 bhp (difference of 35 bhp of the Civic Si), and torque of 156 lbs/ft (difference of 45 of the Civic Si) coupled with you putting on a JRSC, I would say that your Prelude would have been faster despite the added weight of the car.

The JRSC by itself and JR's sucky FMU, you will not get the HP gains that you would expect. You would have to get better engine and fuel management (Hondata, AEM EMS).

My advice is to not get a JRSC since you've already had one (and that is the reason why I got one because I had a turbo on my old car) and get a turbo. The JRSC is great as a daily driver with good performance and little maintenance.

i change the belts during my basic maintenence routines. if you find it hard to change a belt, then, you shouldnt be modding your car.

5-10k. whoa. he should readjust his belts looser. 1/4 -1/2 inch deflection is what you need. the furthest i went with my blower to alt belt was over 30,0000 miles. a few cracks, but, still worked fine with no squeeling.

Well i am in college any drive to work about 20 miles each way and home is 200 miles so i will drive it alot. The belt changing i must agree sucks, i had the prelude s/c for 2 years and put 27k on it. I think it is a good deal on the kit i want boost but i have have not dealt with a turbo car and i heard it is not as safe. For goals i want to hit the high 13 low 14 range. I am thinking i will need hondata and maybe a 12 lb pulley which will prob hurt the daily drive factor.

Are belts really that much money in the grand scheme of things? If you can't afford to replace the belts or are too lazy to, you shouldn't supercharge your car. Gotta pay to play.

No the belts aren't that expensive you can get them at autozone..... How long has it been on your SI do you just use the stock pulley???

about 3-4 years ago, I think a JRSC would have made a good deal. But the thing is, to get the JRSC running right... You would probably wanna get:

440/450 cc injectors
Hondata/Uberdata or some kind of EMS
OBD2-1 adapter
Intake

When I say running right... the stock JRSC system comes with a FMU, and basic fuel enricher solenoid and the kit forces you to retard your timing a little in order to avoid some detonation and lean situations. You will most likely experience tip-in detonation, a rich A/F (killing alot of hp, a bit of gas mileage), and crappy off-throttle response (feels like the car is a snail on low rpms). With the aftermarket EMS, you would effectively cure all of the above, and gain probably 25-30 whp from tuning alone... At this point, you would probably jump from <160whp to <190whp (this is where i was at, with tuning, stock exhaust, header, cat). Now you've spent, say:

JRSC $1300
EMS $200-400
p28 $125
DSM 450's $125
OBd1 resistor $25
Dyno tuning $300
------ almost $2400?

Somewhere around the range for about 45 whp above stock, albeit, the JRSC does have a good midrange, it falls well short of what turbo's offer nowadays (compared to 3-4 years ago). Ball-bearing turbos (lower spool, more reliable?) have gotten much cheaper, and there's just a lot more ppl actively working on turbos on HT and CSi that a lot things are known in regards to reliability and stuff. For the $1300 you're going to spend, you could probably piece together some kind of turbo kit that could easily get you to 210-250 whp. If I had to do it again, I would have done turbo instead of the JRSC.

Thank for the advice guys it is really apreciated... I think i will wait till winter and just get a turbo kit... has anyone dealt with uberdata i have heard good and bad... Is it a hard conversion? You do have to buy a p28 obd1 ecu do you need a wiring haress for that? Well if you guys know anything about uberdata let me know. i am gonna search for some info right now.

I've had the blower on since 2002 and I use the stock pulley. I put down 245 bhp @ 6psi.

THATS GREAT 245 TO THE WHEELS?
i have a b16 swap w/jrsc
:
type r air intake
type r throttle body
type r exhuast cam
gsr intake cam
skunk 2 cam gears
10lb pulley
Zdyne ecu
kamakazie header
evo cat back
custom liquid intercooler kit
.
my set up netted 228whp 161lb tq
.
great fun very dependable...not the fastest but i can take some turbo hondas...
not always the car but the person...
i think the jrsc is great....why is that everyone needs to have the fastest car out there that really sucks the fun out of the lifestlye...you read hondatuning much...they are mostly all motor setups......if you want the best you will never enjoy what you have....
i ran down a bigtime trans am w6 on the bridge the other day so....hey....

I love my JRSC. Very fun daily driver and it's a simple mod (relatively). I did get a separate EMS and had it tuned as I've heard the FMU is crap. No matter what you do FI, you will require tuning for piece of mind. I just have low boost (5 lbs) which netted me a little over 180 whp on a 100 degree day. Outside temperature seems to make a big difference with the JRSC. I'm not into killing everything on the road with my Civic. Making uppidy short-dinks smack their steering wheels in their G35's and Beamers is enough to keep a smile on my face.
