Last time I did an oil change over the summer, I decided to try out the spoon magnetic oil drain plug. I pulled it out today, and to my surprise, there were 2 decently-sized metal pieces stuck to it. They almost look like the oil feeder lines from the windage tray. Does anyone here have any ideas?

Damn, so thats what they are? Does anyone have a good picture of them installed in the windage tray? I can't find shit...

Also, how many oil feeders are there in the windage tray? I've been searching for an hour and I can't find any information on this, or any other similar situations...

Pic with 4 installed. . . your rotating assembly must have caught the two you found.

Alright, I see....

So technically it is possible to replace them, since the bolts on mine arent broken off.

What in the HELL in the rotating assembly would be close enough to make contact with them though, and WHY?

Also, how is oil pressure going to be after this? And how feasible would it be to install new ones? I'm guessing the crank would have to be pulled, or no?

Thanks man, I appreciate the help

I'm guessing the crankshaft counterweights hit them, it's very close to the oil squirters. Perhaps piston skirts also. Why is a different thing, maybe the squirters weren't tight enough and moved a little during driving etc. Your oil pressure might increase now but I don't think its anything drastic and you'll have to remove the crankshaft to install new ones. I don't think they are necessary still, unless you planning on doing some hardcore road racing or similar.

I've seen it happen with some stroked motors also, you do not need to drop the crank. Just need a longer extension for your ratchet about 6 inches or so should get you up there.

Yeah. I definitely suggest them to ANYONE. Just because you never know..

If you cant afford the spoon ones, Password JDM makes some, and theres a billion other no name companys out there that have them.

Uhhhh you definitly want to fix those, they spray the bottom of the piston / wrist pin to keep it cool during engine load. It is one of the reasons why the B18C5 is so reliable. Plus you may want to look into why they came off, it isnt obviously they broke off from some sort of contact since there is no damage to them per say.

Pull the pan and check it out.

He doesnt have the time. Also it has been proven that yes it makes it slightly more reliable, they are not COMPLETELY necessary.

Yeah, I've been extremely busy between work and school...

Next time I do an oil change, I'll drop the oil pan to see how easily accessible they are. However, if the crank has to be pulled, it'll stay the way it is.

LOLOLOL Volks save me now!

Pull your fucking motor apart you lazy bum! I don't even understand people, your oiling system is literally coming apart in there and you cant take off 16 bolts to see what's going one. "If the rotating assembly has to be removed to see things above them then it's staying the way it is." :barf:

Spoon magnetic plug..lol...$$ down the drain..

$3.50 @ VatoZone...lol...I would recommend one...when I rebuilt the motor, it had some fine metal shavings in it for the first 3500 miles or so.

I would defiantly pull the pan and take a look...you could be in for a treat if there is alot of damage...ruined crank for one...

Take an afternoon and a buddy and see whats up...

Few hrs now, or be down for weeks later??

Btw, I don't beleive you have to pull the crank, but I can't remember..seems like you can get to them w/o pulling it...

Also your pressure is going to be lower b/c the holes are open..you have to plug them to increase pressure....they aren't necessary, but I left them on my car...figure why not...

Oh I'm definitely going to go take a look. I figure there was fresh Mobil 1 that I had just put in, so I was waiting for the next due oil change to do it. I've got about 2500 miles since then, so its all in due time. I'll pull it soon and see whats up. Hopefully they can be changed without pulling anything, in which case ill replace them then and there...

forgive me but I don't think Honda would spend countless hours of Engineering and development time on this stuff if it were just for shits and giggles and only had a minumal effect on reliability, think about it. Define slightly, that is such a relative term. If its there then it's necessary but thats just me.

This isn't directly aimed at you "Broken" I just happened to click on your name to reply.
